Christen Mills – RL Supporter

Christen with her niece and nephews (twins!); Christen says they are all “BIG readers” which is what we at Reading Legacies love to hear! Keep up the good reading! 😊

In a note from Christen Mills, she shared one of her earliest reading memories:

“One of my very first memories of reading as a young child, was during a summer library reading program.

First, I recall it being a super hot afternoon, after a long bike ride with my brothers to get to the library.

Temps were in the high 90’s and I can still remember walking into that library which felt like an ice box compared to outside!

We sat down with a circle of friends from school, and were told after the story time was over, [that] we would each be given a special bubble wand to make HUGE bubbles!

The excitement stirred inside us while the story was being read… as soon as the book was closed, the magic happened with bubble wands.

It initially made reading seem very fun, because the story had a character that was always trying to make bigger and bigger bubbles, just using household items.

The creativity seemed so neat, and all the kids were instantly listening to the story, knowing we would soon get our chance to make gigantic bubbles.”

Quote excerpted from the written note provided below.

Christen is a long-time supporter of Reading Legacies through her philanthropic support!

Her story reminds us that a book can be the start of something fun for everyone, that creativity can be cultivated through this simple act of sharing a story with others, and that children flourish when they are nurtured by their family (Christen’s brothers) and community (MVP: the library staff, in this case!).

What book-related activity can you recall from your childhood?
